Why is Hydration Important to Your Health?

I’ve recorded a video where I talk about hydration and why it’s important to our overall health.

How it’s one of the best things to drink (obv. The body is highly concentrated with water) and why you should be concentrating on staying hydrated.

One thing I always pass on to our clients at Masters Personal Training is the fact that they should be adding Himalayan salt to their water.

This helps with your own hydration and absorption of water and the mineral content.

These salts are what I’ve mentioned before in the content I’ve written around having more energy in your life and it’s fundamentally important to generating that energy so that you have the thoughts, feelings and motivation to take control of your life and lose the weight that you really want to.

If you’re wondering when you should be drinking water in regards to your fitness then you need to be drinking it before, during and after your workout (and yes, with the salts). That means adding some salts (electrolytes) to your water especially during your fitness workout.

If you’re interested in understanding why then I’ve added lots of information to the Masters Fitness blog.

If you take on more water and hydrate during your fitness training session then you will be able to drive further and faster during your training.

(Anyone who knows us at MPT will know that we really want to help our clients as much as possible and this comes in the form of pushing you much further than you would go on your own when you’re in the gym.)

Why drink water during training?

It’s important to drink water that has minerals and electrolytes in because when you’re working out in the gym you’re going to be sweating.

This means that you’ll be losing some of the great mineral content in your body and you need to replace it in order to give maximum effort.

Also, drinking the water helps prevent your muscles from cramping up and improves the quality of them contracting and working.

This, in turn, helps you to tear down the muscles and then they will repair better when you’re going to be recovering after your workouts.

Are Lucozade and other energy drinks good?

They are, but the issue with these is that they contain carbs in the form of sugars.

What this means is that their glycaemic index is so high that it counteracts the amount of electrolytes that are in your body.

What happens?

You basically spike your glucose levels and confuse your body, which means you don’t get the maximum impact from your workouts.

A great time to consume an energy drink like this is if your suffer from hypoglycaemia (where your blood sugars drop too low and the brain starts to starve from a lack of glucose.

Hypoglycaemia can happen to individuals who haven’t eaten enough before they start their fitness training session and then they push themselves hard afterwards during the session and burn all of the glucose that was actively in their blood stream.

In the video I also talk about the other things that are good to consider before, during and after exercise. It’s super important to be adequately hydrated and nourished with the right foods before, during and after exercise.

The above will help you to see other things that are great for you to complete your fitness goals, no matter what your overall goal is: whether that’s to lose weight, get fit or become stronger by building more muscle.

Why Women Train Differently To Men

One question we get asked is: “How differently do women need to train than men” and the answer to that question is, well, a little differently. We’re made very similar but also very differently. If you go into a health centre or fitness club then you’ll commonly see more women in the cardio areas and more men in the weights areas. It has changed over the last couple of years, with a shift of more women taking up weight and not going along the historical view of lifting weights will make you bulky (it doesn’t). In fact, Hayley wrote on the MPT blog about why women should be lifting weights in the gym and how doing so will help them get the body they desire in life . The clear fact and evidence behind things is that, yes, women do need to train differently to men, but not completely differently. Women can out train a guy if we’re talking about progression and staying power. That’s been evidence many times. What men can do is generally bulk up quicker (because they want to)...
